7 Fear Of Flying Power Statements

A fear of flying is not a rational fear, since air travel is statistically speaking a very safe method of travel. However, somebody who suffers from aerophobia and is about to fly will find it hard to remember a single fact or figure about the safety of air travel. All they are concerned about is making it to their destination safely. At this point immediately prior to boarding the aeroplane they will most likely be feeling stressed, with high blood pressure, and hyperventilating.

It doesn't have to be like this. There are fear of flying courses and books available, as well as relaxation and self hypnosis techniques. It may also be useful just to remember a few power statements relating to air travel, so that the passenger is always aware that flying is safe, and can also be enjoyable.

1. Millions of flights take off and land perfectly safely every single year.
2. Aeronautic engineers are very clever people, and they know what they are doing. Aeroplanes are designed to be in the air..
3. The plane is designed to handle more stress than any normal flying situation will deliver.
4. Turbulence in an aeroplane is similar to a car going over a bump in the road. The plane can handle it, just as a car's suspension can handle the bumps in the road.
5. The pilots have gone through extensive repetitive training to allow for every eventuality. Also, they fly every single day, they are well experienced and can be trusted to deliver you to your destination safely.
6. The airlines, by law, have to have the safety of their passengers as their absolute priority.
7. Whether a short flight or long haul the plane will land safely and the passengers will be able to enjoy their destination. Each time a nervous passenger flies it will become easier.

Some visualisation techniques may also help to relax someone who is afraid of flying, and may allow them to put their minds at ease. One example would be to picture yourself as the pilot. Imagine the confidence you would feel knowing that you are well trained and experienced, and that you are actually excited about taking your next flight, because it is a job that you love. You take pride in delivering thousands of passengers safely to their destinations every day. By focusing on this positive mindset a nervous flier should feel much more relaxed about their next flight.

By repeating these power statements over and over, and using the visualisation technique, somebody who has a fear of flying should hopefully have a much clearer idea of how safe air travel is, and should feel more relaxed about being able to enjoy flying in the future.
