7 Questions That If Ignored Could Destroy Your Quest For A Six Pack

Since you’re seeking a six pack, you’ll need to ask yourself the following questions to analyze whether you’ll continue doing your six pack exercises and see progress, or if your efforts are just a waste of time.

1. What six pack exercises are you doing? The muscle group that makes up the six pack is known as the rectus abdominis. Regardless of what it may seem like, you don’t need any special “lower ab” work, as the rectus abdominis is one sheet of muscle. There is no lower ab separation, but it is thought otherwise because one of the last places you lose weight is on your lower stomach. Lose the fat, you’ll see the abs.
2. Are your six pack exercises weighted? The goal of a six pack workout is to build muscle, which is done with high resistance and low reps. If you want a six pack and are complaining that you’re not seeing results after doing all these crunches, it’s because you’re ignoring this principle.
3. How many sets are you doing? Odds are against you completely exhausting all the muscle fibers of any muscle group after one set. If you aren’t sore the next day you either need to up the resistance, number of sets, or both (unless you’ve been working out for so long you don’t get sore anymore, which I doubt is the case).
4. How long are you taking to complete the six pack exercises? This is a measure of how explosive your six pack exercises are, your rhythm, and often your form. This is not to say if you’re doing x reps in y time you’re doing something wrong, just be aware of the amount of time you’re spending on each rep. You want to be explosive in the concentric phase, pause, and take about three times as long on the eccentric phase.
5. How long is your rest time? If you’re resting too long, not only do you lower the amount of calories you burn, but you lose focus thinking about random things besides your workout, and when you do that you also lose intensity.
6. What are you eating to help transform your body? If you’re not getting the right ratio of protein, fat, and carbs with your goal in mind, you may be backpedaling with your efforts.
7. When are you eating it? Nutrient frequency has a big say in what your metabolic level is. Nutrient timing concerns if your body has enough fuel to grow or not enough time to burn the calories you take in.

Awareness of a problem is the first step to changing it. Blind willpower and crossed fingers only get you so far. Map out a clear plan of action encompassing these seven questions and move forward with your six pack exercises in confidence.
