7 Sure-fire Ways To Not Lose Your Child While Holiday Shopping

Every parent would agree the worst possible thing that could happen is to lose or have their child abducted. The Holiday shopping season is a busy time and can open the door to potential risk. There are 7 very common and easy to learn measures that parents can take to keep their kids safe while out holiday shopping.

1. Don’t be in a rush – If you know you will be rushed; you will most certainly be distracted. This is when bad things happen. If you cant afford to slow the pace down, find an alternate place for them like with a babysitter.

2. Do not allow them to wait alone – don’t go in a changing room and expect your child to wait outside. They must be in your plain site at all times. It is also a good idea to always accompany them when they go to the restroom.

3. Do not allow them to wander – Always know where they are. Young children should never be allowed to wander around. Don’t drop them in the arcade or a toy store. The best rule of thumb is for them to go no further than you can see and hear them.

4. Prepare them just in case – if they become separated, teach them to stay were they are and seek out help within that general vicinity. The further they wander from the scene of the separation, the more difficult it will be for you to back track and find them. They should know to go to the nearest cash register and ask for the store manager. Then tell the manager they are lost.

5. Teaching your child about “Stranger Danger” – teach them never to go with another person, stranger or someone they know, whom they do not have permission to go with. Remind them of this every time you go somewhere.

6. Have a recent Amber Alert card – this is a precaution every parent should have. God forbid a child does go missing, you call 911 and they can have an Amber Alert posted in minutes.

7. Not asking for immediate help – you have to act fast. If you are in a mall, the cashiers will likely know how to get security fast. Ask for their help. They are often trained on what to do when children go missing. Do not be embarrassed and don’t be over confident. Err on the side of caution.
