7 Ways To Build Your List Online

Many marketers focus on building large email lists because they've been told you can make a lot of instant money by sending product offers to them. So they spend weeks or even years building their list believing this is the correct thing to do. One of the biggest problems with most list builders is not developing relationships with the people on their list. They are only concerned about the numbers. This results in an unresponsive list. A small responsive list is better than large ones that are not responsive.

In order to build your direct sales or network marketing business, it is essential that you have a steady supply of new leads. When you’re new to direct selling, we all know you start with your warm market. But what happens after you’ve worked through that market? You need to have access to more people.

Here are some ways to use social media to generate new leads for your business.

1. Blogging. Blogging is an excellent way to generate new leads. You share regular, fresh content that is of interest to the market you’re trying to reach (be it a recruiting market or a customer market.) Then, you provide something of value that people are willing to leave their email address to get. This might be your newsletter, a “special report” that contains content of interest, etc. All you ask for is a name and email address. Once they leave it, you have permission to market to them more directly about your business. The beauty of the blog is that it’s the hook. People might come several times before they leave their info with you. But if you’re consistent, it will gently draw people in and cause them to convert into a viable lead for your business. It also becomes content that people are willing to refer to others, which can also generate new business for you.

2. Online groups and forums that are dedicated to a specific topic can be a great way to meet people in your target market. But there is a method that you must use if you want it to work for you. First, do a search on topics that are of interest to your target market. Perhaps it’s parenting. Then, click the “More” link at the top of Google, and choose “Groups.” You’ll get a list of groups related to that topic. Once you join certain groups (I recommend you choose 2 or 3 to start…don’t overwhelm yourself or you’ll never get anything else done!) you need to spend time getting to know people, and building relationships. Share ideas and advice. DON’T just immediately start pitching your product or opportunity, or you’ll most likely be banned from that group. As you build relationships, you’ll be able to more naturally share what you have to offer with the people most interested. It might be through an invitation to check out a post on your blog. It might be a personal message with the right prospect. Groups expose you to more people, which is an excellent way build your list.

3.“Refer a Friend” on your e-newsletter. Does your newsletter contain a sentence asking people to share your newsletter with friends? It should. If people are finding value from your newsletter, they’re often happy to share it with their friends. But if you don’t ask them to share, they may not think of it themselves.

4. Build trust, have a privacy policy: People are rightly concerned about the privacy of information that they give you. Make sure you have a privacy policy that states clearly that you will not rent or sell their information to other companies. That helps to build the trust needed for someone to give you their valuable email address.

5. Make use of your Email Service Provider's multiple forms feature: Some Email Service Providers (ESPs) provide a multiple forms feature. Multiple forms enable you to have different offers right on the same site or on separate pages and websites. For example, you could have an offer for coupons and another for a whitepaper or webinar in the same place. A simple sign up for your email list or e-newsletter form can work very well, too.

6. Share your Knowledge: If you share your knowledge of your industry in articles, blog posts, etc., you can drive more traffic to your website and get more email list subscribers. For example, many websites that publish articles have a space for you to include a "bio" section where you can include a little bit about yourself including a link to your website.

Try to make this a text link to drive traffic and work toward increasing your search engine ranking. Sharing your knowledge is a great way to get more email list subscribers and prospective customers.
Once you have people on your lists, continue sharing your knowledge as well as making offers. Emails that your subscribers find relevant and timely will keep them on your list and keep them interested. Consistency is the key to long-term subscribers and customer loyalty.

7. Use the Forward to a Friend feature of your ESP: Most ESPs have a forward to a friend feature. If your subscribers like your content, some will forward to a friend and that can yield you more subscribers. It is best to go beyond jus the "forward to a friend" as the link text in the email to more of a call to action: "If you know someone who might find value…" To make it easier to the receiver of a forwarded email to subscribe to the list, you might want to put a link to the subscription form right in the email.

8. Providing Value: If you do not have a unique voice or unique content that gets people to come back to your website, you will not make it in this business. Providing value to your prospective readers and customers is a must. Make sure you are doing your best to inform and educate your readers so they have a natural feeling to sign up to your email list. With this way one can build a great list online
