A “bare Bones” Medical Job: X-ray Technicians

X-Ray technicians have pretty rewarding jobs. They make over fifty thousand dollars a year, they get to be a part of the medical field, they know they're indispensable to the hospitals and offices at which they work, and they get to help people. But how do they get to that point? Well, the first step is education, and that means going and getting a degree from an X-Ray Technician School.

An X-Ray Technician School is not actually just a school that teaches the study and use of X-Ray technology. X-Rays being such a part of medical science as they are now, an X-Ray Technician School is any school that offers a degree in a field related to X-Rays, such as Health Science or, ideally, Medical Technology. Inside those degrees, there are specializations and concentrations that allow for a student to go from a general medical education to one that is focused on X-Rays.

The advantage to X-Rays being a subfield of other degrees is that it means a student has a much wider range of schools to choose from, since there are five or six different degrees that would be appropriate, and most schools offer at least one. This strips away many of the problems in finding an accessible school, or an affordable school, and there are even several online colleges that have programs specifically designed for those who want to become X-Ray technicians.

After receiving the degree, is time for clinicals, the hands-on learning where most of the nuts and bolts of being an X-Ray Technician are learned. Most schools will have a clinicals program that they will put the student in, helping the student to be placed in a rotation at a hospital or other medical provider, in order to finish up their degree. An X-Ray Technician school, any school that offers a concentration in being an X-Ray Technician, can be found in almost every major city, and all over the internet. It is a fine, fun job, with many perks, and with a critical shortage of trained technicians, the job is both vital and secure.
