A Buyer’s Guide To Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom furniture is about more than just the bed, though this is the main focus of the room. There are several other pieces that can complete your bedroom furniture and provide you with the perfect setting. You are going to want to make sure that the pieces you pick are not just going to work well together and look great but you are going to want to make sure that they are functional as well.

When looking at beds the first thing to do is to determine the size that is right for you, too small and you are going to be uncomfortable, too big and you may have an added expense and an excessive amount of wasted space. A twin bed also sometimes known as a single is going to be approximately 39” wide and 75” long. It is designed for a single person. It does not however leave a lot of room to move around. A full or double gives more room and can fit either one or two people. It is usually 54”x75”. For couples a Queen, King, California King and Eastern King range from 60 to 76” by 80”x84”.

You want to choose your bed according to the amount of room you need to feel comfortable as well as the number of people who will be sleeping in it. Families with younger children may want to pick a bed that is slightly larger. Make sure that the bed is sized to fit the room. If you have a larger room, you may want to consider picking a bed that is slightly larger in order to make sure it is proportional to the room. For children, twin sized beds are usually adequate and bunk beds provide an excellent way to conserve space. A daybed gives the option of a bed and a couch for guestrooms.

You also want to consider the frame of the bed; platform beds provide support for your mattress without a box spring while traditional frames include a larger headboard and smaller footboard and provide a more traditional look rather than the more modern look of the platform bed.

Nightstands are something that should be functional as well as decorative. Consider something with drawers, shelves, doors or a combination. You will want the make sure that the nightstand is as tall as the bed so that you can easily reach everything that you need such as a lamp and alarm. It should be large enough to hold these items comfortably.

Armories are freestanding pieces of furniture, which allow you to both hang clothing and put them in drawers. They are also sometimes used to hold things such as televisions and other home entertainment devices. They usually have doors on them, which can be closed. These pieces are usually large so need to be placed in a room that can accommodate large pieces of furniture easily.

Dressers and chests are functional necessities. These are basically the same thing, a place to store items usually clothing. If you have a small amount of space consider something such as a chest, which is tall rather than wide while larger rooms may want to consider dressers. Each has their own advantages and both are going to have options when it comes to the amount of drawers and the size of them. You may find a chest that has several small drawers for smaller items as well as medium and the larger drawers to handle everything from shirts to sweaters. Make sure to get one that is going to be large enough to handle your clothing and what needs to be stored in them. You do not want to have to over stuff.

Mirrors are not necessarily needed in the bedroom but they do come in handy. There are several different types. The dresser top is great for rooms that are large enough for dressers but not for have a full sized mirror, that is free standing. There are also wall full length mirrors which are usually attached to the back of doors or to the wall itself and then there are free standing adjustable hinged mirrors which can be considered free standing pieces of furniture. If you have enough room you can even consider a tri mirror. These can either be free standing or attached to the dresser.
