A Cabin In Canada

My Grandfather recently told me of his holidays in Canada and about a house that he used to own there . He told me all about how he first bought it and then began to describe the whole place to me. It was the most incredible sounding place and I just had to share it.

It was a log cabin in Alberta, placed neatly on the east side of Primrose Lake. It had a giant open fireplace in the living room, 3 bedrooms and a large kitchen and bathroom. It was built using local hard wood and stone and was made completely by hand, all of it.He dug out an old photo of the house and it look absolutely idyllic. In the summer time he would go out and fish for a while on the still lake. You can't comprehend the sound of true silence he said to me, its simply one of the most incredible things you can ever hear. We live in a world where there is always a car, or plane or person making some noise or other. But not here. Here was silent as can be. He told me how he used to gaze for hours at the ore-inspiring mountains and often sleep in his little boat as well. In the winter time he would cut a hole in the ice that covered the lake and set some fishing poles up. Whilst he waited for a catch he would ice skate on a cleared patch of lake. He would then take whatever fish he had managed to catch back to the cabin and my grandmother would make fish pie for supper.

The whole thing sounded like a complete dream to me. And that is why, after hearing my grandfathers story, I am heading out there soon on a holiday searching for a place of my own on that same lake. My grandfather's old house is no longer there sadly but I'll be happy with anything that comes even close to it.
