A Colour Injection Article

There is a lot to be said for the minimalist look when it comes to interior design. It is a classic look that rarely offends and it is also relatively easy to make simple, stylish purchases that look a lot more expensive than they really are. However, it can be a little clinical and impersonal at times.

If you want to inject a little more warmth into your home, you could do it with colour. One or two simple changes can go a long way to giving a room a facelift.

A statement painting can make a real difference to a room, and it needn't cost the earth. Go for a bold abstract print or a colourful wall hanging or tapestry to make a strong statement. If you are at all artistically inclined you could simply buy a couple of cheap canvases and see what you come up with by yourself, or if you have a few artistic friends maybe they could help you out.

One great, cheap way to add instant colour is to purchase some large cushions and a brightly coloured throw for your sofa. Within seconds, it will feel like you've bought a whole new piece of furniture.

Of course, if you have a little more cash to spare you could make one extravagant purchase and buy a new sofa. If you choose a bright colour it will instantly become the focal point of your living room, moving away from the minimalist trend.

Modern rugs can also add a great deal of warmth and colour to a room. They look particularly good on wooden floors and are also widely available at very reasonable prices if you are willing to shop around.

If you have a particular colour that you want to bring into your home, you could do so by choosing one wall of a room and repainting it in your chosen shade.

If you want to make a real statement, try painting one wall a different colour. Be sure to choose a colour that you will be able to live with for a long time, though, as repainting will involve a lot of time and effort.
