A Complete Guide To Managing Your Money With Mint.com's Free Online Tool – Part 2 Of 8
Overview Clicking on the "Overview" tab in the upper navigation brings you to a page that functions as your dashboard. This page features a series of interesting modules that give you a broad view of your financial situation. Each module lets you drill down further by linking to more detailed information on other pages of the site. Below, you'll find descriptions of each of those modules. Accounts Module This module, which runs along the left side of the page, gives you an overview of the various accounts you set up in the "Your Accounts" pop-up—including cash, credit, loans, investments, and property. It also calculates your total net worth. Alerts Module The alerts module sits at the top of the page, warning you of any upcoming bills, as well as any large deposits or withdrawals associated with your accounts. Advice Module This module sits below the alerts module, providing suggestions to improve your financial situation, like setting specific goals or taking advantage of financial product offers. Budget Module The budget module gives you a broad look at each of the monthly budgets you've defined (more info below). You can see how much you've spent in each of those categories and how close you are to reaching your spending limits. Goals Module The goals module gives you an update on how close you are to hitting your user-defined financial goals, letting you know if you're behind or ahead of schedule on your savings plan. Portfolio Movers & Shakers This module shows you the top gains and losses from your financial portfolio for the previous seven days. It shows you the dollar value of each security listed, as well as the seven-day gain or loss in both dollars and percentage points. Trends Module Located just below the accounts module on the left side of the screen, the trends module provides an overview of two very important trends—your cash versus credit card debt and your net income. The cash versus credit card debt section displays a bar graph showing your cash on hand, credit card obligations, and the net difference between the two. The net income section also displays a bar graph with each bar representing your net income for a given month. Ways to Save Module This module advertises various financial products that can help save you money. You'll find offers on credit cards, insurance, bank accounts, loans, retirement funds, and more. This concludes part two of this eight-part series. Next time we'll take a look at Mint.com's Transactions page.
