A Deeper Look Into Animal Portraiture

Giving someone a gift will always come with suspicions. You will want time to pass before asking if they liked the gift or not. There would be more suspense on the waiting period if the president was the recipient. She has her gift with her as she visited the president but before entering she needed to sign a visitor's log. A guard took delivery on the bag which contained a portrait of the President's horse, Little Man.

It is her animal portraits that got people into her art and she now lives in Old National Pike with her family. Animals and portraiture are the two things that interest her most, which is why she learned all she could about it and now it has become her business. Successfully her money making business is doing really well currently.

With her pastels she draws the animals with the pictures that she has taken or that the owners have taken. For the horse portraits, she uses show photos are her guide. After working with various animals such as horses, cats, dogs, a goat, parakeets and guinea pigs, she claims they all have a special place with her. Though she has does many portraits of animals, she is also interested in doing one for fishes and turtles. Using all her imagination and creative she makes sure that each animal is drawn in such a way that each portrait will become successful.

After several months of thinking about the idea, she finally wrote the first lady asking for photos of little man so she can paint him. Photos of the president and the horse then came as a reply from the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence after a month. With the mailed photos, her normal process was somehow disrupted. Customarily she would always visit the animal first and not just rely on the pictures that were given since photos often do not get real life.

Still busy on the project, she then heard the news that Little Man had died. She said that hopefully the portrait will mean more to the President now. Dividing the portrait into four she continued her work. To begin with she created a drawing using pastel which was how she marked all the dark, medium and light shadow tones. It was important that the color cover all the areas hence she needed to use her fingers to blend it in.

Adding a bland background was the next stage and in this case Little Man got on in light blue. Lastly, it was important to make it look real. The artist exhausted a lot of time making that the details were accurate and that the portrait looked real.

She created a portrait of Little Man because she was interested in animals. Given that she loves horses too, she has one which is in Poolesville. Apart from that she also has a cat, a dog and a goat. Giving the president the portrait was something that she was very proud of.
