A Dumb Thief Proves The Value Of A Security Camera

In today’s world where most of us are concerned about many aspects of security, there is one aspect that is predominantly in the news on a daily basis. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t turn the daily news on, and see a film clip of someone caught on a surveillance camera committing a crime of some sort. Security Cameras are becoming
the best deterrent to crime and the best collector of criminal evidence.

There are dumb criminals and then there are dumber criminals. Speaking of the latter, here’s an example.

A masked gunman walks into a bank and hands the teller a note. The note said, “Give me all the money or I’ll blow your head off”. The teller responds by saying “I’ll give you all the money if you take your mask off”. Low and behold the dumb bank robber complied.

The rest is history. The gunman was clearly caught on a Security Camera. This little anecdote is not meant to make light of a serious situation, but I would like to point out two key points. One, a Security Camera is invaluable and two, the teller stood firm in a non-agitating way. I know we’ve always told our loved ones and/or our employees to always comply with the demands of a perpetrator. But in some respects taking a little non-agitating approach can defuse a situation and produce valuable evidence. Conversely, the majority of criminals are far from dumb. Many are very smart and know how to feed off of our weaknesses. Knowing this, we cannot become complacent and say to ourselves “This would never happen to me”. In our homes and our businesses we have to take every precaution to prevent a dangerous situation. As I said earlier, Surveillance Cameras are an excellent deterrent. A potential thief who sees a Security Camera will in all probability look for an easier target.

In conclusion one can never be too careful. Stay on guard, practice in your mind what action you would take in a dangerous situation, avoid being a prime target by not wearing a lot of jewelry, have emergency numbers in your cell phone on speed dial, and, in general be conscious of your surroundings.
