By including the following low calorie foods to one’s normal diet, it is most definitely possible to live a healthy lifestyle.

• Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables like spinach, tomatoes, boiled potatoes, red capsicum, mushrooms, celery etc are all part of the low calorie diet. Many of us as kids despise vegetables, but cooking methods such as roasting, baking and steaming are a lot more preferable to frying or grilling.

• Fruits

Fruits should best be eaten when they are fresh instead of canned. If it is only possible to procure canned fruits then you should ensure that they do not have added sugar in them. There are a lot of fruits out there that are actually high in calories and cholesterol, and although delicious they may take you away from your aim of healthy living. Fruits like grapes, oranges, apples, melons etc can all be included in the low calorie diet.

• Dairy products and proteins

Foods with high proteins always sound tempting to the ears and the mouth. Burgers, pizzas, etc all use meat but also have unhealthy grease in them. Skinless chicken and other lean meat is a healthy way to go rather than fried, oily items. There are various kinds of dairy products that encourage low calories. For example low fat milk, low fat cheese etc are a good way to distract you from the other options of unhealthy milk products.

In terms of drinks, water is the best and healthiest drink available. A few cups of coffee wouldn’t hurt if sugar is avoided in it. Most low calorie food are not very delicious and we tend to avoid them. But introducing small amounts of them in your daily diet will get you used to it and then you wouldn’t realize the variation.
