A Few Of The Child Safety Products You Need

When walking through the baby store, you will soon wonder how anyone made it alive through infancy and toddlerhood in the old days when the new fangled baby safety item didn’t exist. You can find safety devices that work for every part of a baby’s life. You can think about these things in two possible ways: 1) you can think that since you got through it all, the baby will most definitely make it, too. You can also think 2) that there is danger everywhere and you need to buy every item it takes to keep baby safe. The answer is somewhere in the middle. You need to buy those things that are the most likely to cause your baby problems in your home without becoming scared of every little thing. Common sense can prevail in such circumstances and you can keep a good handle on what things to buy by thinking of your baby and your house and choosing those hazards you think need an item to help keep the baby safe.

Alarms for Child Safety
These are alarms that have a receiver and a transmitter. The child wears the transmitter part of the alarm and the parent keeps a hold of the receiver. The signal is emitted from the receiver and it goes off when the child has gone too far away from the receiver. The sound can be just a beep or can be a continuous, loud signal. These are best for children who can run and play and can get very far from their parent. There is also a device that directs you to where the child is.

Door Safety
You need to think about childproofing your doors. You can put door knob covers on the doors that install with just a screwdriver and are easy for older children or adults to use but nearly impossible for a toddler to get through. Cover all door jambs so that the baby doesn’t get injured by them. You can also install a lock for certain doors that you want to really keep a child out of. You should remember to put a door knob cover on the exterior door so that you can get out in an emergency but baby cannot exit the house unnoticed.

Pressure-mounted Safety Gates
These need no equipment to install and they expand to fit the size of the opening you are trying to protect. Many are available that fit between 28 and 60 inches wide and are best used to protect a baby from the bottom of a stairwell and from doorways on the same level of the house. Don’t use them on the tops of doorways as they can be pushed down if your toddler is heavy. Use hardware-mounted gaits instead on the tops of stairs. Make sure the safety gate fits tightly within the space allotted.
