A Golf Lesson - How To Cure A Slice

There are few golfers on the face of the earth who have not had a run in with a slice. This can be quite frustrating, but you need to stop and consider why this might be happening and what you can work on to solve the problem. Here you will get a little lesson on how to cure a slice.

A slice is caused by a sideways spin on the golf ball. It is basically like a curve ball; it spins sideways until it is caught by the air and swerved to the side. So your job is to figure out what has caused this sideways spin on the ball.

A fundamental of golfing is that the ball is going to go where the club is facing when the ball is hit. So, if the ball is curving to the right when it is hit, that must mean that you are not holding your club in the proper position. This could be caused by a number of factors: you may have the wrong hand position, hand action, or arm action, you may be trying to hit the ball too hard, or a combination of any of these things.

First you should know that trying to aim your shots further left will not solve the problem. Many mistakenly try this as an attempt to fix their golf slice, but it may in fact make the problem worse than ever.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to practice persistently using a few tips. Get the club that you seem to have the most problems with for your practice, take a deep breath, and try to relax and have fun. That is what this is really all about!

Make sure that you have a firm grip. A weak grip on the club is actually the most common source for slicing issues. Focus on how you are standing and holding the club.

Look down at your left hand and make sure that you can see at least two knuckles; if you cant, you need to adjust your hand until you see them without moving the club. This simple adjustment may give you marked improvement in your golfing.

It is also tremendously helpful to focus on producing a straighter ball. You can do this by keeping your elbow against your body while you are swinging. Have a friend observe your swing to see if you are lifting your elbow with each swing. If so, you are affected with a case of chicken wing; this is likely the issue with your slices! Practice keeping your elbow in place and you will likely soon see an improvement in your shots!
