Surrey is a county situated in the south east of England, and it helps make up the Home Counties. Surrey surrounds Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire. Because of the county's proximity to London, Surrey has numerous commuter towns and villages, which has made it one of the most affluent areas in Britain.
Even though you might not immediately think of Surrey as a great tourist spot, we think that it's the ideal location to enjoy a short break or holiday. With fabulous historical sites, some fabulous green spaces and great shopping opportunities, a visit to Surrey really has something for everyone.
Most of Surrey is in the green-belt & it's the most wooded county in England. There are many commons & access lands, in addition to a significant network of foot paths & bridleways, which include the North Downs Way - a beautiful long-distance path. Because of this, Surrey offers some great rural leisure activities, which include bike riding, walking & horse riding.
Although much of the land in the county is flat, the highest point in Surrey is Leith Hill, which is near Dorking & stands at an impressive 294 metres above sea-level.
Surrey has plenty of activities for all the family, so it's the perfect location to bring the entire family for a day trip. In fact, you'll be able to drop by an active farm in this county or simply experience a fantastic ride at one of the county's two theme parks. You can even help uncover Surrey's past by exploring one of the county's many historical houses, magnificent gardens or even one of its interesting museums or art galleries. We recommend the Ash Museum and the Museum of Farnham.
Alternatively, if you have not got the children with you, drop by Denbies Wine Estate. Denbies Wine Estate is England's biggest fully functioning winery, which is placed in 265 acres of gorgeous vineyard, just opposite the stunning scenery of Box Hill. Denbies Wine Estate offers frequent tours, as well as fantastic wine tastings every single hour.
If you would like to shop 'til you drop in Surrey, you'll find some exciting market towns, which have numerous locations for you to bag a bargain. Cranleigh is one of our favourite spots, it is well known as the biggest village in the UK & it has a quaint high street to match its rustic character. It also has a thriving market every Tuesday & a sizable supermarket that caters to your every day needs.
Ultimately, we believe that Surrey really has something for all of us to enjoy. For more information on hotels, attractions and the county's historical woodland, please contact your nearest tourist information centre.
