A Guide To Using Free Press Release Distribution Services
Here are some tips to maximise your results: * Only release a press release if you have something of worth to announce. DO NOT release a press release without being aware of its specific purpose, i.e. to announce a new product range. * Make sure you know how to write a press release. Google "write press release" to find online guides. Failing that, pay somebody else to write it for you. * Make sure the title is short and straight to the point. This is essential as many users and journalists scan down a page looking at the titles only. If a title catches their eye, then they will read the body. * It is neither desirable nor necessary to capitalize your title. * It is not a good idea to release the same item to every single free press release distribution site. At the very least use a unique title and make sure that 20% of the body of the press release is unique. It's always a good idea to avoid duplicate content. It won't do your site any harm, but Google loves unique content and so in order to maximise your results aim for as much unique content as you can. * ALWAYS read their submission guidelines before you submit. If you follow their guidelines then you're item won't be rejected for publication. It's also a good idea to do this so as to clarify their exclusion policy: You don't want to submit your item to a site that allows adult themes such as pornography or gambling as in Google's eyes being associated with a website like this may harm your site. * Make sure you have one or more links pointing at your published item. The better quality the link, the better search engine rank position your press release will have. Failing a good quality link, then use a "dofollow" social bookmarking site such as Mister Wong or Yattle Online Favourites. * Pick a free press release distribution service that allows you to add anchor text to your URL. There aren't many of these - also make sure that they are not using the "nofollow" microformat. This is easy to check - look at an already published news release and examine the code of the link. If there is rel="nofollow" in the URL html code, avoid this website. At the very least you want to make sure you get a good backlink to your website. * Make sure that the free press release distribution site has a PageRank of 4 or more. PageRank is just one of many measures that Google uses to assess a site, but a PageRank of 4 or more indicates a healthy site that will have new content indexed quickly. * Use Yahoo Site Explore to assess the pages indexed and the number of incoming links to the free press release distribution site. It's good to take a look under the bonnet - so to speak - of a site to see how large and active it is. Generally speaking, the more pages indexed and the more links coming in the better. * Don't expect a blaze of publicity from a single press release. If it is written and published correctly you will receive a respectable number of new visitors but don't be disappointed if you fail to set the world alight. Remember, you may not get it exactly right with your first ever published press release but using the guidelines above will help you in distributing your item via free press release distribution sites.
