A Look At Inks Lake

Inks Lake is located in central Texas. It is a part of the Highland lakes and is the next lake down from the Colorado River from Lake Buchanan. With just a length of only 4.2 miles and a width of 3,000 feet, Inks Lake is the smallest of the Highland Lakes, but is by far the most beautiful.


There are three towns that surround the lake. Burnet is located only 14 miles east of the lake. Burnet is a small community and has many things to see for visitors. The Confederate Air Force Museum is located in Burnet. The museum features World War II fighter planes, firearms, photographs and much more.

There is also a steam train known as the "Hill Country Flyer" that leaves from Cedar Park. It travels down Short Creek Canyon and crosses the Timber Bridge. It was made famous in the movie "The Newton Boys."
The train stations in Burnet for two and half hours before heading back to Cedar Park. Visitors can enjoy the scenery of Burnet and the hill country.

Kingsland is another town that sits just 7 miles south of the lake. Kingsland is a community of about 5,600. It has many places to see and stay. One the most popular spots in Kingsland is "Lookout Point." Lookout Point is a rock formation that took place millions of years ago. They are located on a cliff on the side of the road. Many tourists visit them each year and are studied by scientists.

Kingsland is the place to visit if you like to fish and enjoy the sunsets. There are numerous vacation rentals available all around the lake.

Llano is another small community that sits just 17 miles west of Inks Lake. The community is filled with historic places and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is just 14 miles from Llano.

Inks Lake is made popular by the beautiful sunsets and the boating and fishing. The lake sits on Inks Lake State Park. The park is a 1,200 acre park full of cedar and oak that border the lake. The park offers almost 8 miles of hiking trails, fishing, swimming, boating and picnic and camping areas. There are white tail deer, turkey and many other types of wildlife. Visitors can take photographs of the wildlife.
Inks Lake also has its very own floating restaurant. "The Catfish Barge" is built on a floating barge and serves catfish dinners and offers beautiful views of the lake and beautiful sunsets.

With spring in the air and summer just around the corner, families are looking for that perfect vacation spot. Inks Lake is close to Austin and a nice place to visit and relax.

Visitors have plenty to see and do and can always find vacation rentals near the lake. With several small towns surrounding the lake, visitors can find something new each day.

Pack up the family and head to Inks Lake State Park. You can find relaxation and quiet time for you and your family!
