A Look Back At Disney's Robin Hood
The original Robin Hood revolves around a man who “steals from the rich and gives to the poor” when the sheriff of Nottingham imposes heavy taxes on their people. Although he referred to stealing as just borrowing money from those who can afford it, Robin Hood helps the poor people of Nottingham. He has a sidekick named Little John who helps him through all his escapades. Disney’s Robin Hood is one of the movies that had its own twist, especially when the Walt Disney Studios added a whole new feel to the characters. In this Disney adaptation, Robin Hood and his wife Maid Marian are portrayed by foxes, his sidekick Little John a brown bear, and the man that Robin Hood likes to steal from, Prince John, is a lion. His sidekick, known as Sir Hiss is played by a serpent. This feel-good movie is very light and can be enjoyed by adults and kids because of the new edition. Like any other Disney movie, Disney’s Robin Hood also showed the different forms of robbery, but with a very comedic appeal. In this manner, kids will be able to enjoy it and hopefully convey a lesson. The number one villain, Prince John, also has a very funny trait which is thumb-sucking. This can make the audience ridicule him more. This movie starts out when Prince John tricked the King into leaving Nottingham to go on a fake battle so they could steal money from the peasants. Like any other hero in a movie, Robin Hood comes to the rescue and saves the town. Disney’s Robin Hood also didn’t forget about the love angle of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. The songs in the movie are equally effective because it captured the hearts of fans of Disney songs. There are also other Disney characters in the movie like vultures from “The Jungle Book” and other characters from “The Aristocrats.” Since Disney’s Robin Hood is one of the first few movies that have been made after the death of the pioneer Walt Disney, the creators were nervous about the outcome and support from Disney fans. Needless to say, the 83-minute long flick did well in the box office sales. The reason why Disney’s Robin Hood is very popular to all ages is because of its fast-paced nature. The movie has also earned some recognition from film critics because of its very unique yet lively storyline. A “Most Wanted” edition has also been released for the fans of the movie, including the bonus features with Mickey and Minnie Mouse in it.
