A Look At Celebrating Cinco De Mayo With Mexican Desserts

It's spring, and Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. The great thing about the United States is we incorporate other cultures celebrations into ours. St. Patrick's Day was brought to us by the Irish and now Cinco de Mayo is here from south of the border. In America, we love to have an excuse to party, and nothing says party better than food and drinks.

Most people out there will have a basic idea of what they will cook as the main course. They might like burritos and flautas best, or maybe they will make some chicken enchiladas. Dessert, however, can be harder to settle on. Most people do not know much about Mexican desserts, so planning a very special holiday meal is a good way to discover some of the sweeter dishes from our friends to the South.

If you want a light, fruity dessert after your meal, why not try some delicious banana quesadillas? A fruit sorbet or ice cream is always a good choice, or perhaps you may want to try your hand at cooking plantains. They look like bananas, but they need to be cooked to make them palatable. They are delicious after they are prepared according to a recipe.

Mexicans love creamy desserts. They are an excellent way to temper the spiciness of the meal. Flan is a traditional dessert that is sweet, cool, and creamy. This easy custard is topped with a coating of caramel sauce. It looks simple, but it tastes divine. Fried ice cream is another fun creamy dessert. Your kids will adore this one. Balls of ice cream are rolled in a coating and then briefly fried until the coating is crisp. Serve immediately topped with cinnamon sugar. When the spoon cracks through the crust into the creamy ice cream, everyone cannot help but be impressed.

Chocolate is a native food in Mexico. You can bake some delectable brownies and sprinkle some chipotle into the batter. No one will know what your secret ingredient is except you. When paired with something spicy like peppers, chocolate becomes even more delicious. Making a Mexican chocolate sauce is another idea. Fresh coconut ice cream can be topped off with the sauce to create a new taste your family will be drooling over.

Now that you have decided on some desserts, you can return to planning the rest of the party. Are friends coming over to sample your delicious meal with some refreshing Mexican beer? Will you be decorating the house or just serving refreshments?

Celebrate the warmth of spring with Cinco de Mayo. It is a wonderful way to blend two cultures together and there no other holidays that occur near it. Indulge yourself and enjoy all things Latino on the fifth of May as you commemorate the defeat of the French.

Go ahead and add this holiday to your family traditions. You will be able to teach your children about Mexican culture and you will all enjoy some fabulous Mexican food. Make a pitcher of sangria and enjoy the spring weather with the exotic flavors of Mexico.
