These days it is as easy as taking candy from a baby to go the medical doctor and get a pill for just about anything that ails you. With the exception of the reduction of antibiotics available all other drugs seem to be flowing like water. Taking regular medications can be deadly if you have an allergic reaction to a new medication or if you are accidentally prescribed two medications that don't react well together. It is due to this that you must be extremely careful with the different medications that you take and how they react together.

One thing is for certain and that is your doctor and your pharmacist can only do so much for you and it is important that you not only deal with the same medical professionals on a regular basis and that they are individuals that you trust but that you are also staying on top of the different medications that you are being prescribed, what they are for, any potential side effects that may occur, and any potential lethal interactions. If for any reason you begin taking a medication and it doesn't seem to sit right with you or even makes you feel odd or off in anyway it is a good idea to stop taking that medication and to contact your doctor and pharmacist right away.

You should not wait until the affects or side effects become so problematic that to deal with them is unavoidable. At the first sign that something is not right this is the point at which you should probably try and find a more compatible medication for that particular health problem.

Most people assume that they need to contact their medical doctor with questions or issues about their medicine directly, however, sometimes it is wise to contact your pharmacist and to speak with him or her about your concerns. Unlike your medical doctor you will probably be able to reach your pharmacist on the phone right away, and because they are trained specifically in the medication aspect of your medical care, they will most likely be better able to answer questions about drug interactions or potential side effects right away and the pharmacy should also have all the drugs you are taking listed in their computer so that they can see potential problems right away.

It is good practice to have a blood test and to answer all questions honestly and to the best of ones ability to guard against allergic reactions before beginning a drug regimen. Researching new medications will give the patient a better understanding of how certain drugs work on the body, its side effects, and its reactions with other medications.
