A Popular Gift For Kids: Cybertronian Optimus Prime

The newest installment from the Transformers saga hit store shelves on June 22, 2010 ? as a movie game, that is. Activision?s take on the Transformers story line focuses on what could be regarded as a pre-quel of sorts, or an origin story of how the chief with the Autobots rose to his revered position.

Prime Before His Time

Lovers of the Transformer?s cartoon series in the eighties, and by extension Hollywood?s latest version in the tale, will immediately discover the difference in the new/young Cybertronian Optimus Prime. For starters the video game?s story is set on the transformer?s home planet, Cybertron, ravaged by the war between Decepticons and Autobots.

As opposed to the conventional big-rig Optimus Prime, Activision chose to provide the leader of the Autobots a different alternative form compared with what fans are accustomed to seeing. The ?younger? prime takes the shape of an armored vehicle fitted with cannon prepared to blast.

Origin Of A Hero

The storyline of War for Cybertron takes place well ahead of the Autobots come into contact with humankind and in a sense fills in plot holes found in the eighties cartoon show which commenced the Transformers saga. Optimus Prime?s assignment in the game is to rally the Autobots to help save planet Cybertron from Megatron and also the Decepticons given that the leader of the Autobots, Zeta Prime, is revealed to have fallen in combat.

The Cybertronian Optimus Prime becomes, in some sense, thrust in to a position of command to test his mettle. Rather than the self-confident, powerful leader seen from the tv cartoon and big-dollar silver screen creation, Activision?s portrayal of Optimus Prime concentrates around the weighty load and sacrifice of management. You might say that Optimus Prime, like a younger, inexperienced general, is promoted before he is ready.

Prime On New Platforms

The primary core of Transformer fans, at the end of the day, most likely will remain faithful to the franchise and purchase into the video game?s story. Activision, to see to it that supporters do, has licensed the War for Cybertron on all video game platforms like Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo?s Wii and DS.

Thus far both the video game and action figures have gotten good ratings from consumers, but in all fairness, several Transformer hardcores say the game play in the game itself simply leaves something to be desired. Generally, Activision?s newest take on Optimus Prime works nicely.
