A Review Of Dell Studio 14z

Catering to the needs of students and consumers that are more likely to download software and entertainment that use a disc, this thin and light system is ideal for streaming and playing digital files. The laptop is budget friendly, has a great blend of performance, inputs and outputs and doesn’t even look too frumpy.

The 14z has the plastic build but subtle design flourishes give it a higher-end feel. The lid is soft to the touch, and is largely fingerprint-resistant. Just like all other consumer Dell notebooks, black come as the standard color. Other colors of the model will cost the buyer a little more.

A silver palm rest with a glossy black strip above the keyboard, inside the chassis mixed with a matte silver. No multimedia controls can be found on this machine, although the playback and volume controls on the function keys can be used without having to press the Fn button. The power button, which glows white and is built into the hinge has a nice touch.

The most distinctive characteristics of the 14z's design, is that, though it has a fairly large screen size, it has no optical drive. For some users, this could be an instant turnoff. But other users, such as students, who are accustomed to downloading software, consuming digital media, and streaming clips on sites, won't miss having an optical drive.

The 14-inch notebook that weighs 4.4 pounds is fairly light making it is easy to carry. However, the odd screen ratio makes it difficult to find perfect fitting covers and sleeves. Also the absence of the optical drive is sometimes a drawback taking into account that with a little more weight, many other laptops are available with also provides us with optical drive

All in all, this machine takes up a little of its design cues from the other XPS that are of higher ends. The performance is also in par with them, except for maybe when extensive 3D work is required. Considering Dell’s clean aim at its usual buyers, this is certainly one of the most focused products, if not one of the better offerings.
