A Unique Summer Music Festival Of 2011 (unique Means One Of A Kind, So It Cannot Be Compared To Another “unique” Event.)

Music festivals have become an essential summer activity over these past years. These days, there's a summer festival for nearly every occasion and genre. Still, most of these music festivals follow a similar format: a few stages of bands playing during the day (and maybe into the night), sometimes a little comedy, and often some food, vendors, and camping.

But rarely does a summer festival break away from the mold as dramatically as the Gathering of the Juggalos, held annually in ?Hyphens?Cave in Rock, Ill. Held this year from August 11 to 14, at four days it's one of the longest music festivals of the year. Beyond that, it's also one of the most unusual.

The Gathering of the Juggalos has taken a page from other music festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza, but fashioned them for an underground audience. The core audience of this summer festival is made up of juggalos, or fans of the Detroit rap group the Insane Clown Posse, as well as an extended family of artists and celebrities.

While juggalos are often misunderstood, they're also very inclusive. So music fans unfamiliar with juggalos will be welcomed with open arms, and would do well to check out this event for a unique summer festival experience.

Like many music festivals, the centerpiece of the Gathering of the Juggalos is a number of all-day performances by top acts. However, these skip most of the usual mainstream music festivals' picks in favor underground hiphop and hard rock.

Besides Insane Clown Posse, top headliners at this year's summer festival include favorites of juggalos like rappers Twiztid, Dark Lotus, Busta Rhymes, Lil John, and Paul Wall, as well as rock bands like Kittie, Kottonmouth Kings, and Camp Kill Yourself.

Unlike other music festivals, the Gathering of the Juggalos offers much, much more. The full summer festival experience, first of all, offers an entire program of comedy and pro wrestling with top names in each field.

Also unlike other music festivals, there's a full carnival midway, seminars, late-night parties, a huge bonfire, helicopter rides, and even beauty contests and a Faygo soda wet T-shirt contest! These are as much a part of this summer festival experience here as the music.

Ask the thousands of international fans who've gone to the Gathering and they'll tell you that nothing really compares to this one-of-a-kind summer festival experience.
