A Visit To Spain

Most tourists who visit Spain book cheap flights to the spanish "costas" for a couple of weeks of sun, sand, sangria and certain other delights guaranteed along Spain's Mediterranean coastline. But the privileged few who plan and travel beyond the main tourist traps will uncover a treasure trove of rich and varied landscapes in this huge mystical country of many contrasts where your holiday can be whatever you want it to be.

Spain is a democratic nation situated in the South of Europe. It is surrounded by the Bay of Biscay in the north, the Mediterranean Sea in the east and south, the Atlantic Ocean in the west. Within the mountainous interior are a series of fascinating medieval towns and fortified villages which have been largely and suprisingly, unaffected by modernism and tourism. Inland from the beaches, Costa Blanca has one of Spain's most fertile areas.

Spain is more than bullfights, flamenco dancers and crowded beaches. It's a spectacular and diverse country, the north resembling the rolling, green hills of Ireland and the south giving you a taste of Moroccan landscapes and architecture. Periods of peace and cooperation were interspersed with spells of fierce fighting. Universities, unique architecture and an age of religious toleration were all fostered by many of the Islamic rulers, most notably those of the Caliphate of Cordoba in the late 10th and early 11th centuries.

Budget airlines and affordable fares have turned Spain into a beach resort haven for northern Europeans ,wishing to escape their own damp climates to almost instant sun within a couple of hours. With sun-bleached beaches and a favourable rate of exchange for most travellers, it’s easy to see why.

Before setting your trip in stone, search Spain's cities and create a workable itinerary so while you're there, you can spend time enjoying the sights and not feel overwhelmed with the choices! The countries two largest cities, Madrid and Barcelona, are further evidence of this diversity. Madrid is open, warm, and endearing.

From April to early November the weather in Spain is pleasant pretty much everywhere, though July and August can be unbearably hot and humid (36?C/97?F). In Andalucia there are usually plenty of warm, sunny days throughout winter, but there can also be long periods of heavy rainfall. Many Europeans choose to retire to Spain for the dryer, perhaps healthier climate, or just to spend the winter.
