A Holiday Destination For All Seasons
Nowhere is this more apparent than by the sea, where the waves crash spectacularly against towering cliffs throwing up a truly intoxicating quantity of ozone in the process. Of course, coastal scenery in winter can be at its most spectacular along the remotest shores of Scotland and Ireland but, if you are looking for somewhere much nearer home and with a rather less hostile climate, the area to head for is Cornwall’s Atlantic coast. Possibly as a result of gradual climate change, winters are tending to feel a lot milder in the South West and out of season visitors are often very pleasantly surprised by the number of sunny and relatively warm days that occur between December and March. Cornwall’s North coast stretches from Land’s End in the West to the Hartland Peninsula in the East and contains some of the highest and most spectacular cliff formations in the country. In between these, walkers will encounter wide, magnificent sandy beaches, many of which are populated by intrepid surfers regardless of the weather. Many of the places along the route have a very familiar ring to them - Newquay, Rick Stein’s Padstow, Polzeath, Port Isaac ( Port Wenn in TV’s Doc Martin series), King Arthur’s Tintagel, Boscastle and Bude. A winter break in Cornwall is not, however, just about invigorating walks along sections of the South West’s Coastal Path. There are several all year round golf courses and some fine shooting to be enjoyed during the season. The unique location gives you the opportunity to explore the coast, beautiful surroundings and friendly towns. It has so much to offer, from relaxing in tranquil and luxurious surroundings to an hiking, shooting or playing golf on one of the many activity breaks. Choosing a hotel in Bude gives you the perfect base for discovering North Cornwall; enjoy the many activities on offer and will be sure to have something for everyone.
