A Quick Guide To Camping Holidays In South Devon

Guy ropes, ground sheets and tent pegs – you’ve got your snazzy 4 man, three compartment tent and now all you need is somewhere to pitch it. For camping, Devon is one of the best and most popular locations in the whole of England. There are lots of things to see and do here and, more importantly, some truly amazing, high quality campsites. With camping, it’s those little extras that change a good experience into a trip that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Here are some of the best sites available and a rundown on what they have to offer.

For a unique experience, you can visit the Woodlands Theme Park in Dartmouth. This park has it all. It is set in 80 beautiful acres of countryside and has plenty of things to do. It is a big hit with children as it houses the UK’s biggest indoor play centre, with watercoasters, toboggans and dune buggies to keep the young ones and the young at heart busy for hours.

If you want something a little quieter, then perhaps Galmpton Touring Park would be more of an ideal location. This family-run holiday park offers a more relaxed kind of holiday. Close by is a traditional village pub serving good food and beer, and the site is near to some of the most spectacular National Trust Gardens in the country. It is also close to a beach if you fancy relaxing on the golden sands. The beach is around a mile and half away, so is within walking distance.

Another family orientated park is the sweetly named Peppermint Park. For camping, Devon offers some of the best beaches and this park is located close to a blue flag sandy beach. The blue flag system gives you the assurance that the beach is clean and well maintained. Peppermint Park is set in 26 acres of woodland that are beautifully cared for and contain some amazing trees and stunning flowers. In fact the surrounding woodlands are so well looked after that the park has won the David Bellamy Gold conservation award.

If you fancy the simple life then you may want to go for the Leadstone Camping Park. This is a very down to earth park that deliberately seeks to avoid the trappings of the more commercial sites. Because it offers no frills camping pitches, the owners are able to keep the prices extremely low. This site is very near to Dawlish Warren, which has some of South Devon’s best beaches. Its quiet atmosphere is also great for bird watching and the surrounding area has the reputation of being a birdwatcher’s paradise.

The Twelve Oaks Farm Caravan Park also provides excellent camping facilities. It is a working farm that specialises in Charolais beef cattle. So if you find cows lulling in the background rather relaxing, then this is the place for you. There are also waters nearby where you can do a little coarse fishing if you want to try your hand at catching your own supper.

These five places all come highly recommended and are all worth a visit or two. For camping, Devon has some great parks to choose from and this is only a small selection. Devon has a wide selection of parks suitable for all holiday types and tastes. Happy camping!
