Add And Depression, Prevalent And Persistent
ADD depression in affected children shows itself in these kids’ lack of interest in meaningful, even pleasurable, tasks, restlessness, sleeplessness, fatigue, guilt feelings, and in the extreme, deliberation of suicide or inflicting self-punishment. Depressed children with ADD get afraid easily and develop manic phobias, are disruptive and aggressive, very easily irritated at their playmates’ as-to-their-standards-slow play-life, short temper even during play, easy frustration, spontaneous or impulsive crying. ADD depression may also expand to young children who have not conquered their disorder in their younger days. Some of the manifestations that need to be further studied, if not treated outright, are worsening grades at school, lack of interest in sports or academics, fights with friends, lack of sleep, deep sadness or angst, zero appetite, aggression. If not treated, these adolescents continue on to full maturity who find no meaning or enjoyment in life, are always at a loss for energy and motivation, low in zest and self-esteem, recurring thoughts of self-harm or even suicide, obesity or at the other extreme end weight loss or anorexia, avoidance of any family or sibling or social contact. Treating these depressive symptoms is not easy for the parent, especially if the parents are not ready to accept that their children may be suffering from depression or at worst ADD depression. Accepting the presence of the affliction is the first step towards proper medication and therapy. The parents will then have to determine who the best medical staff may be, the best therapy method, the most suitable drugs, etc., and firmly resolve to assist their children through the rough times of treatment ahead.
