Abaco Bahama Travel Tip #1

Make it easy on yourself the next time you are traveling to Abaco, Bahamas. Several small commuter airlines operate from the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport that depart from the Jet Center terminal far from the hustle and bustle of the main terminal. The attitude is much more casual and relaxing as opposed to the stress and frustration that has become the norm in most large airports these days. The terminal is located on the far west side of the airport and can be reached by the perimeter road that circles the entire airport.
It still possible to drive your car right up to the front door to drop your bags and then re-park your car nearby in a pay lot where they only charge $5 per day to leave your car while you are in the Bahamas.

After checking in with your commuter airline just have a seat in the comfortable chairs in the lobby and have a free cup of Starbucks coffee that is provided for pilots and passengers on the departing flights. Your pilot will appear and make a call for your flight and then a short walk to the flight line where the departing planes are waiting to be loaded. I have traveled to the Bahamas many times over the past 25 years and have found that it is well worth it to use these small airline companies just for the sake of not having to worry about where to put your car, or having to deal with unhelpful ticket agents, long security lines and unfriendly personnel.

The return to the United States is also much less stressful as the US customs at the jet center is usually empty so clearing customs goes very quickly and your car is waiting just a few steps from the terminal. In this day and age having the right knowledge, attitude and proper planning can make your next trip to the islands, or where ever you may be traveling, much more relaxing and enjoyable.
Happy Trails,
