The Simpsons is the American animated tv sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is based on a middle class American relatives. The relatives is made up of the main characters Homer his wife Marge, the children Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional city of Springfield. Homers job takes him in to the world of the nuclear power plant, where they takes on numerous tasks and things always seem to go wrong. They is and a character that seems to like going down the pub with his mates where they seem to enjoy making fun out of the boss and themselves, when they gets home the relatives takes control, there is and a lot of pranks that always go wrong with Homer picking up the pieces. Homer always seems to land up with egg on his face for his antics.

The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a pitch series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts become a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed in to a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the 1st Fox series to land in Top 30 ratings in a season 1989- 1990.

Since its debut on December 17, 1989 the show has broadcast 445 episodes and twenty- first season began airing on September 27,2009,1 The Simpsons Movie, a feature- length film, was released in cinemas worldwide on July 26 and 27, 2007, and grossed US$527 million worldwide. Featuring a host of top name stars & Persons of a high ranking office. Some of the stars include Michael Jackson, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks just to name but a few. Some polititicians have been used the likes of Tony Blair, George Bush to name just a couple. It has become a cult series worldwide, it has also highlighted some political views in a comical way, it has touched on relationships of famous couples in a light hearted way.

The Simpsons has won loads of awards since it started as a series, including 35 Primetime Emmy Awards, 26 Annie Awards and a Peabody Award. Time magazine's December 31st, 1999 issue named it the 20th century's best television series, and on January 14, 2000 the Simpson family was awarded a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The Simpsons has the longest running American sitcom, the longest going American animated program, and in Homer's exclamatory catchphrase "D'oh!" has been adopted in to the English Lexicon, while The Simpsons has influenced many adult oriented animated sitcoms.
