About Wax And Candle Making
Paraffin wax which is cheaply available is the main type of wax used in molding candles. This petroleum byproduct is openly and easily available in the market. Palm, soy and bayberry waxes are some of the other types of waxes obtained from plants. Besides, there are waxes obtained from vegetable byproducts as well. Soy wax is a natural wax and is largely used by candle makers. Soy is basically obtained from soybeans after the hydrogenation process has taken place. This is an environment-friendly product. Soybean plants are copiously grown in the states of Iowa, Indiana and Illinois in the United States of America. Apart from the above waxes candles are also made from beeswax. Previously candles were made from bayberry, palm and beeswax. However, with the growing need for more candles paraffin wax is commercially being used. Another wax that is eco-friendly is palm wax. This wax can be renewed. In Malaysia and Indonesia vast areas of tropical rain forests are being cleared and palm plantations are being grown instead. This has resulted in the loss of habitat for the endangered Sumatran tiger, the orangutan and the rhinoceros. Subsequently, with the timely intervention of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) a Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) comprising of member countries, conservationists and the stake-holders was set-up to oversee and ensure that palm trees are well-taken care off. Palm is a fantastic environment friendly source from which candles can be made. When purchasing palm wax ensure that the product has been obtained through environment-friendly means. Gel is another product from which candles are made. However, this is basically used in scented candle making.
