Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. Thomas Lincoln, Abraham’s Father, was a carpenter and a farmer. They lived on 30 acres of land. The Lincoln Family was constantly “poverty- stricken.” In 1816 the Lincolns moved to Spencer County, Indiana. Two years later, 1818, Abraham’s mother died. He was 9 years old. A year later Abraham Lincoln ‘s father married Sarah Bush Johnson. She was a widow. Sarah Bush Johnson tried very hard to teach Abraham Lincoln to read. Abraham Lincoln went to several private tutors. After Abraham Lincoln learned to read he couldn’t stop. He loved to read. Then the Lincoln family moved again in 1830 to Illinois. In 1832 Abraham Lincoln served in the Black Hawk War for about 30 days. In 1832 Abraham Lincoln ran an unsuccessful race for the Illinois Legislature. Abraham Lincoln became a lawyer in 1836 and got married to Mary Todd on November 4, 1842.

• In 1864 Abraham Lincoln passed the 13th amendment abolishing slavery for good in America.
• On April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth.
• Abraham Lincoln died the day after, April 15, 1865 at 7:22 in the morning.

Abraham Lincoln was known as one of the most famous presidents in the world. Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, helped end the civil war, and much more. Even though he has died many people still take him as a great role model. This great person did many great things for America. Nowadays President Abraham Lincoln is featured in many books and is known all around the world.
