Accessories That Can Boost Your Formal Look

It has been said that adding the right accessories can dramatically change a whole outfit. Well, this statement actually serves true in the same way that a dash of color can transform a canvas into a work of art. Scarves, jewelry and head accessories are the most commonly used accessories and these can upgrade your ensemble from plain boring to something exciting. Now, although you can get away with wearing too much accessories on a casual occasion, it is not applicable for a formal wear. Hence, you must be very careful when choosing the accessories and make sure that it would match your formal outfit, as it can either break or make your whole appearance.

Before you start accessorizing your evening dress, you must evaluate carefully what kind of dress you are going to put on – is it simple or complicated. Simple or plain dresses can pull off a bit more accessories to dazzle your outfit to the next level. However, it’s not the same with a detailed or patterned dress. So be careful when adding accessories to your outfit because not all accessories are meant to be worn altogether.

Jewelries (earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets and anklets) are most probably the most staple accessories a person can wear in a formal social gathering. And with so many designs to choose from, you will never run out of ideas when matching your outfit and your accessories. Despite this though, there are still some rules that need to be followed when wearing accessories with women’s formal wear. For one, it is important that people stick with the classics. Otherwise, they’d look eccentric. Bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces that are made out of diamonds and pearls are the most popular choice when it comes to accessorizing a gown. But then again, there’s no need to spend out of the necessary just for a party. When there is no diamonds or pearls available to wear or borrow, your own set of jewelry will suffice. What is important is that the jewelries match. In addition, adorning your hair with clips, headbands and other hair frills can make you look more sophisticated. But be forewarned. If you plan on dramatically fixing your hair then make sure you have minimal jewelries on.
Furthermore, shoes, shawls and purses are also great accessories and they have the advantage of being useful aside from ornamental. Wearing fancy shoes that compliments well with your whole formal wear does leave a lasting impression. But this will be futile if it clashes against your whole ensemble. So take into consideration the color and type of dress you are going to put on.

If the event is held at night, it would be advantageous for women to bring along with them a shawl. Shawls give warmth and at the same time accessorize your dress – a great example of functional style.
Whatever special occasion dress you’re going to wear, make sure that you pair it with subtle accessories. Accessorizing all visible areas of your body is not advisable. Stick with one or two that would best compliment your outfit. Remember, accessories are there for you to wear and not the other way around. So make sure you wear them appropriately.
