They're fun, they're safe and they're practical. What's not to love? Glow sticks give kids a new measure of fun to summer nights they will love, plus heightened safety parents will find irresistible. Summer means fun. And summer means playing outside. Summer also means weekend-long family reunions, holiday celebrations and parties. Be prepared for those extended events by stocking up on glow sticks for your nighttime outdoor events. Glow sticks are small wands (the most popular size is six inches - although you can get glow necklaces and glow glasses, as well) that contain reactive, non-toxic substances. When the stick is bent, a little glass tube inside the plastic stick breaks, allowing the two substances to combine to create a long-lasting glow. In the case of necklaces or glasses, you give them a quick snap to combine the non-toxic chemical substances. These fun little light emitters are great for extending the life of your party. And now, with the summer holidays coming up, you'll want to make sure you've got plenty of them on hand. Use them for Memorial Day, Independence Day (they're more fun than sparklers - not to mention safer and more long lasting!) and Labor Day, too. And don't forget your own individual celebrations - graduation parties, beach parties, romantic getaways, camping trips - the possibilities are endless. Lots of towns host summer-evening events. Among the most popular are Friday-night movies in the park, weekend-long festivals, band concerts. Selling glow sticks can be a great way to generate funds at these types of festive public events. Kids love the pretty colors and fun, flexible shapes (specifically the necklaces and the glasses) and the long-lasting glow. Parents appreciate the safety they afford their kids, as well as the low price. Parents also like the convenience of having glow sticks available in multiple colors. They can choose a separate color for each of their children, let them go play and still be able to locate them after dark. Adults also have other reasons to like glow sticks: they add a festive touch to grown-up events, like garden cocktail parties and outdoor soirees. String assorted-color glow sticks around the perimeter of your deck, yard or garden area. Lay them along pathways to light your guests' way. Dangle them into the water at your next pool party (they're waterproof) for a fun lighting option. Or, for a quirky touch of romance, stick a few into your favorite candleholders during your next romantic evening al fresco and watch the sparks fly. Glow sticks are fun and frivolous but they've also got a practical side. Take along a bunch on your next camping trip. They need no electricity or batteries and because one stick lasts all night - a minimum of 10 to 12 hours - they're plenty economical! Plus, once they're activated, they stay "lit," so there's no chance of misplacing them - which was always a concern with your old battery-hog flashlight. Plus, one of these clever little glow sticks is just the right thing to have on hand when you and that special person want to go for a long moonlit walk and the moon is nowhere to be found.
