Add Value To Your Home With A Loft Conversion

With house prices slowing and even dropping in places, selling might not be the best option right now. It is the time to make the most of what you have.

As families grow the most obvious benefit to moving house is extra space, this however can be achieved without moving home. Often 30% of a properties space is located in the loft area. Using this space to its full potential can give you that extra bedroom, bathroom, office space or entertainment room. In fact, there are plenty of reasons why someone might want to convert their loft space.

Loft conversions have been shown to add 20% to the value of the property. No matter what you use the space for; chances are you could add L20,000 - L40,000 to the value. Many use the converted area for guests or lodgers, giving them extra income before they even consider selling the property.

When making an investment as big as this, it is important to consider all costs associated with it. Sometimes costs can spiral out of control and you end up spending more than the conversion will be adding to the value of the property.

Research is essential, when using a tradesman make sure you use someone who knows what they are doing, has past experience and comes recommended. If you are using someone who isn't recommended, ask to see lofts they have previously converted in the past.

You might want to choose to do the work yourself, but you need to make sure that you have the time to complete the work and that you have the ability to do the work. If you do it yourself you can save money rather than spending it on a loft conversion specialist, but that part is completely up to you.
