Adsense : What It Does, And Why It’s Good

Adsense is a program run by Google that has revolutionized the way advertisements are posted on websites. Rather than having an ad come up inconveniently and without any relation to the content the website being looked at contains, Adsense works so that advertisements come up when they are related to the content that is on a website. For example, if one were to search “books” on Google, you would see advertisements for businesses and products related to books. Adsense also chooses which ads to post based on the location of the person looking at the website. That is, a person in New York will receive ads for places in New York rather than ads for places in Montana.


When the ads are posted, they are posted to inconvenience the person viewing the website as little as possible. Unlike pop-up websites, Adsense puts advertisements in the margin of the site you are viewing. This keeps from inconveniencing a website viewer, but also can interest someone because of an ad’s relation to the content being viewed.

Adsense is good for online marketers because it improves the chances of finding a potential customer by having the ad post for people who are interested in similar content, and not arbitrarily. By posting ads about products that people might actually be interested in purchasing, advertisements will receive a greater amount of attention than by use of other methods. Also, by running Adsense on a content-heavy website, that content can be converted into revenue. The more content, the more advertisements Adsense will find to post on your web page, and with enough clicks or views you will gain part of the money the advertising pays Adsense to put up ads on your site.

Adsense’s innovative method of getting advertisements to reach people who’d be most interested in seeing them has brought up a whole new way of making money for the websites hosting the advertisements and the companies posting the advertisements. On one hand, a hosting site receives money on a per-click or per-view basis of a certain ad, and the advertising company receives more efficient and effective exposure. It is a mutually beneficial move.
