Advantages Of Breastfeeding

There are many advantages to breastfeeding. For a start, it provides a time when the busy mother can sit down and relax, put her feet up and bond with her baby. There is no worry about whether the child might be allergic to mother's milk. It is made especially to suit baby. It is easy for baby to digest and has all the necessary nutrients for life and health. Colostrum - the first milk the new mother has - contains special antibodies that protect the baby from disease.

Even though scientific experts try to copy the formula as closely as possible, there is no real substitute for breast milk. The actual substance changes as the baby sucks, with the first part being very thirst quenching and the last rich and creamy, just what baby needs to keep growing strong and healthy.

Breast-feeding is less work for the mother. There is no work involved in measuring and preparing formula, or cleaning and sterilizing bottles. You don't have to wonder if it is the correct temperature. And when going out with baby, there is no hassle about carrying the formula and bottles, or keeping them sterile. Breast-feeding also helps to protect the mother from diseases such as breast and ovarian cancer, and osteoporosis.
