Advantages Of Information Security Training
Data loss can prove to be very disastrous to companies, as they will not only lose their customers’ trust but may also face a possible lawsuit (there are certain laws such as the Data Protection Act of 1998-UK, which require the companies to protect their customers’ data). Therefore by providing adequate information security the company will be able to maintain the trust of its customers. Another problem that a company may face due to a security breach is the loss of its own confidential data. This may include trade secrets, recent research or blueprints of products to be developed. This information may be very valuable, especially to other companies in its field. If a hacker gains access to such information, he/she can easily sell this information to other companies. Such a loss of data can again be prevented or minimized through the implementation of a secure network. The advantages incurred by the customer in performing transactions with a company having good data security compared to one which doesn’t have such security are many. Hackers will not be able to gain access to the customer’s sensitive information (such as credit card number and PIN). Therefore the risk of hackers been able to make unauthorized transactions (pertaining to the customer’s account) is less. The customer can be sure that his/her contact details are secure. Otherwise a hacker may blackmail, send spam e-mails, prank call a customer using such contact details. Also a hacker may use a person’s information to conduct a background search. This may result in unpleasant consequences, for example if the hacker starts to blackmail the person using this information. As explained above, Information security training is of dire importance to a company which depends heavily on information technology (IT). In addition to IT security training courses offered by a company to its employees, there are also other academic institutions which offer these security courses to people. Some of these courses may even be conducted online. Enrolling to these courses will allow a person to become an IT security professional. There are two accepted entry level IT security certifications, namely Security+ and GIAC-GSEC. After gaining an entry level certification, one can continue to further study in this field and obtain an advanced level security certification such as the Information Systems Security Architecture Professional or Certified Information Security Manager.
