Adventure Tour To Chukotka

This survey trip grants an opportunity to see main features of Chukotka in one respectively short trip. You will see majestic tundra landscapes of plains and mountains. You will cruise along sea coasts and observe sea birds and mammals. You will visit national settlements and nomadic stands of aborigines: the Chukchi and the Eskimo and get to know their traditional lifestyle.

Itinerary


Day 0 (Thu). Departure from Moscow (E3-121, 19:30, DMD).
Day 1 (Fri). Arrival in Anadyr (12:50). Transfer to the city by minibus (car) and boat. Accommodation in hotel. City tour of Anadyr. (D)
Day 2. Acquaintance with Anadyr. VisitingChukotka Heritage Museum Center, Museum of Geology, Art Gallery. Free time. Overnight in hotel. (BLD)
Day 3. Trip to local tundra all day long with picnic and fishing. Overnight in hotel. (BLD)
Day 4 (Mon). Transfer to the airport. Flight to Provideniya (AD013, 10:30 – 12:00). Transfer to the settlement. Accommodation in a private small hotel (or home stay). Sightseeing tour of the settlement. Visit to museum of local lore. Folklore dancing performance of aborigines – Eskimo (Siberian Yupik) and Chukchi. Group briefing. Preparations for the trip. (LD).
Day 5. Ride (25 km) by 6WD coach / truck from Provideniya to the Yupik national settlement Novoe Chaplino. Acquaintance with the settlement. Visit to local house and lunch with aborigines. Further ride (12 km) to Inakhpack countryside. Passage by motor boat to Gylmimyl Lagoon (1 h). Good chances to observe grey whales, walruses, fur-seals (nerpas) and sea birds as pelagic cormorant (Phalacrocorax pelagicus), horned puffin ( Fratercula corniculata), pigeon guillemot (Cepphus columba) and others. Setting a base camp. Overnight in a hunting hut or in tents. (BLD)
Note: In case of worse weather conditions group waits at Inakhpack with accommodation in hunting hut.
Day 6. Sea round trip by boat: Inakhpack - Yttygran Island (20km) – Nynengen Island (9km) - Inakhpack. Visiting the sacral Eskimo place ‘Whales Avenue’. Lunch - picnic. Boat based observation of the huge seashore colony of sea birds as guillemot, seagull, pelagic cormorant. Return to the base camp. Hiking. Swimming in hot springs . Possible fishing. Dinner with tasting of dishes cooked with salmon and/or sea mammals’ meat, salmon soft caviar, tundra’s berries, mushrooms etc. Overnight in hut or tents. (BLD)
Day 7. Sea round trip by boat to Arakamchechen Island (40 km) and back in direction to Kygynyn Cape (40km). En route, good chances to observe feeding grey whales, walruses and fur-seals (nerpas). Stopping at Kygynyn Cape with a small distance walking to a big rookery of walruses (usually 500-3000 animals). Photo and video shooting. Lunch - picnic. Passage by boat to Glazenap Bay to visit a memorial place from time of exploring of Chukotka. Return to the base camp. Free time. Overnight in hut or tents. (BLD)
Day 8. Sea passage along Senyavinsky Strait to the mouth of Penkigney Bay (15km). Observation of the largest Chukotka birds’ rookery of horned puffins, pigeon guillemot and others at Merkinkan Island. Continue of sea trip to the national Chukchi settlement Yanrakynnot (12 km). Short time tour of the settlement. Dinner with tasting of local cuisine. Overnight in a local house. (BLD)
Day 9. Ride across tundra (50km) along Marich and Getlyaninvaam river valleys by special off-road caterpillar vehicle to a field base of Chukchi reindeer herders. Examination of traditional Chukchi dwellings – yarangas. Meeting with herders and exploring of local life style and their traditions. Lunch with traditional local dishes. Overnight in tents or yarangas. (BLD)
Day 10. Ride by caterpillar (around 10km) to a reindeer herd (around 1000-2000 animals). Photo and video shoot. Explore of herders’ lifestyle. Drive (around 10 km) to Getlyanin hot springs. Rest and swimming. Possible fishing (fly and bait fishing) of salmon trout, chun salmon, eelpout and grayling. Dinner with fish soup. Overnight in tents or hut. (BLD)
