I recently had the opportunity to go to a presentation by three top network marketing gurus. Their combined income for 2007 was in the neighborhood of $4 million. They had attained this level of income in less than three years. After listening to them for only a few minutes, it was obvious to me how they were able to create such powerful organizations in such little time. All three of them were very dynamic speakers and had a strong belief in the organization they were representing as well as the network marketing industry in general.
I walked away from this presentation with some new knowledge that I know will help me build my business. One of the presenters asked four questions that he asks all his prospects:
1) Do you work when you want to?
2) Do you work where you want to?
3) Do you work with whom you want to?
4) Do you work IF you want to?
These are four very powerful questions that we should ask all of our prospects and ourselves. Network marketing is the vehicle that can allow you to answer yes to all of these questions.
They also stressed the importance of using third party tools when recruiting prospects or selling your product. We all have access to these tools regardless of what company you represent. These tools include things like CD’s, DVD’s, magazines, flyers, web sites, three way calls, opportunity meetings, etc. It is way more powerful to let these tools “sell” for you. This takes any objections the prospect might have about you out of the equation. One of the speakers has personally recruited 106 people into his business without ever once doing a one on one meeting.
There was one thing about the evening that did bother me a little and that was the method of marketing that they promoted. It is the old school network marketing idea of making your list and contacting your warm market and having in home business presentations. As I sat there thinking if I had to do this to build my business, I’m not sure that it would succeed. It may have worked for these guys who have been in the industry for over 20 years and have a gazillion contacts, but will it work for your average Joe? Not can it work, but will it work. We all know that it can, but are most people willing to put in the effort it takes to grow a business this way. And if you are willing to work your business this way, is it going to be fun for you? I can honestly say it would not be for me. Therefore, as good as their products are, I can’t see myself joining their company. I may use the product, but it is not where I choose to build my wealth.
