There are lots of adware and spyware removal software on the Internet. Some of them are really good and some of them are really bad. But, there is also another type of freeware removal software that can invade your privacy. That is the free adware spyware removal software scam.
Not all the free software is good. You need to be very careful when downloading freeware software that claimed to remove spyware and adware. If you want to download any removal software, download software that has good feedbacks. This will prevent you from downloading any software scam.
There was one time when a friend of mine downloaded security update from a pop-up and he didn't know that by doing that, he will get infected by malicious software. It changed his homepage and asked him to update his security settings. He asked me why the security update notification is still there. I told him everything that I know about malicious threats and he was shocked. But, after I taught him how to go online securely, he has become more careful when browsing the Internet.
This is one of the removal software scam and it can happen to all of us. Other than using the pop-up, some fake removal software will give you a free scan and will show you there are malware lurking in your computer in the scan result. Whether the malware are there or not is questionable. However, some established companies also provide you with free scanning and their scan results are genuine.
In conclusion, in order for us to detect fake removal software, we need to do some research about the software first and search for feedbacks about it. If we're too lazy to do the research, then we might get infected.
