The main thing to remember here is that the top affiliates were not that much different to any newbie when they first started out. They had their trial and error and it was persistence and taking action consistent action that enabled them to make big money.

This list is also known as an “opt-in list” and the process is known as “listbuilding”. These affiliates then follow up with their subscribers by email and make product recommendations to them. Since these affiliates are building up trust and rapport by giving away useful information, they have a higher chance of making a sale.

If you compare this approach to sending people direct to your blog, if the visitor doesn’t buy the first time, they leave and your traffic is wasted. You will never know who that person was and are never able to follow up with them.

If you have a list, you make more money from your traffic in the long run. The person is on your list and is not going anywhere. This also works well for free traffic generation methods since you are able to capture visitor’s email addresses and get to know your prospects better.

You may have heard the notion “the money is in the list”...it IS true. Just make sure you concentrate your efforts towards building your list too.
