Congratulations! You've decided to take charge of your life and become involved in affiliate marketing. It seems you've done some research and realized that you too can make money online by selling other peoples products. Well before you start spending all that cash you know you'll be making it may be a good idea to review some common assumptions or areas of negligence that could very well undermine your success online.

"Build it and they will come." That may have worked in the movie 'Field of Dreams' but just because you have a website on the internet doesn't mean you'll get visitors to it. You actually have to drive customers to your site using any number of varying methods such as pay per click, search engine optimization, article marketing, adsense, social networking sites, etc. Traffic generation is a key component in building an online income. If you are unfamiliar with any or all of these techniques I suggest you do some research and start learning Today! Don't worry, traffic generation is not an art but more a science that can be learned and applied by anybody in a short period of time.

Once people arrive at your site they won't just click on the affiliate link and make a purchase. You're going to have to supply some 'sales copy' of your own on the site to get your visitors in a buying mood. Lace your sales copy with the benefits (not the features) of the product you're promoting. List these benefits in a bullet point, lettered, or numbered format for the visitor to review. Wow them with intriguing content about the product your promoting. Tell them just enough to get them curious or interested or they will just click away from your site.

Before these visitors leave your site entice them into subscribing to your list. Building a list of visitors that have already been to one of your sites is one of the most important business building techniques you can implement for future growth. BUILD A LIST. By offering a free giveaway such as a report, e-course, or any number of inexpensive information based products should be tempting to any visitor to subscribe. You know how we all love free things! This will make your future affiliate marketing efforts much more effective and easier. If you haven't already, subscribe to an auto responder that will enable you to capture these names.

Advertising your product using more than one traffic generation method is wise. As we already discussed in the second paragraph there are several ways of driving traffic to your site. Pick 2 or 3 methods you're comfortable with and stick with them. Some cost money but many don't. Remember," don't put all your eggs in one basket".
