Welcome back to my series of articles on affiliate marketing and what it takes to get started. In Part 1 I shared with you some of the misconceptions people have about making a lot of money through affiliate marketing, especially in the beginning. Let's face it, no matter what type of business you decide to build for yourself online, you will not make a lot of money up front.
One of the key points that most people miss about the online industry is that if you don't have a passion for what you are doing, it will be much harder for you to succeed. In other words, you will not make money right off the bat and if you do, it won't be much. Building any type of business takes time whether it's online or offline. If you don't have the true desire and patience to build a successful business, you will truly fail. So before going any further you need to ask yourself, "Do I truly have what it takes to build the type of business that I want?" Hopefully you answered yes so let's move forward.
Choosing a product is your next step. It's important that you find a product that you like and believe in, but the most important thing is that there have to be plenty of people that want to purchase that product. If you choose one that you are in love with and start promoting it only to find out no one is interested in what you have to offer, you will quickly become discouraged and frustrated. That is the time that most people look at themselves as failures in this industry and they give up. Don't let that happen to you.
You need to locate a product that has a good commission structure and affiliate program, then do a search to see if others are just as interested in that product as you are. You need to be able to promote your product to your target audience and you need to know who that audience is.
If you don't know what kind of product you want to promote but want to see what other people are searching for, one of the best places to look first is Yahoo Answers. Just browse through there and see what kind of questions people are asking. There are numerous topics to choose from as well. People are always asking questions about how to do something and the main thing people are searching for is a solution to their problem. What you want to do is provide them with that solution.
