After Reading Jane Eyre

This article was written by Charlotte Bronte from England. The protagonist Jane Eyre suffered misfortunes which the society brought about. When Jane Eyre was a child, her parents passed away. In that time, she was so poor that she had to depend on her aunt who was her only relative for bringing her up. So Jane Eyre was an orphan raised by her wealthy aunt, Mrs. Reed, who promised her husband to take Jane as her own daughter. However, treat Jane in an unfriendly and often a cruel manner. After Jane had a fight with her cousin, Mrs. Reed thought it was impossible to tolerate her again and send her to a charity school—Lowood.

At the Lowood, she makes friends with a young girl named Helen Burns and Miss Temple She forms a quiet and faithful friendship with them. But then Helen dies of consumption. And to Jane, he passes a space of eight years almost in silence there, six years a student and two as a teacher. She yearns for new experience and accepts a governess position at a manor called Thornfield.

And she met Mr. Rochester who connected with her love in the future. As time flies, she and Mr. Rochester started a love story. However, they got ready to have a wedding. To her surprise, a insane woman stopped their wedding, because Mr. Rochester had already married. His wife was a mad woman. Although he explained a lot, Jane couldn’t accept the fact, she left him. A long time later, she came back. She found Mr. Rochester again, and he had become a blind man. He still loved Jane very much after so many years. When she disappeared, he almost went mad. And his mad wife knew this thing, and then she set a fire on the governess’ room. Mr. Rochester was badly injured in the fire, losing a hand and the sight of both eyes. Having heard this, she clung to Mr. Rochester. Finally, they stayed together. This was an idealized happy ending. I believe they will stay happily forever and all the readers must be happy to see Jane’s victory. That’s the victory of all the women for a new age.

Jane Eyre’s braveness towards love had shocked me. How I wish I could be that brave! But finally, I was defeated. That didn’t mean Jane didn’t teach me something. She showed me self-esteem, the courage to say NO to everything you dislike. What’s more, we should stand on our own feet, follow our heart’s desire and cherish our life. Life is ceaselessly changing, but our living principles remain.

The book which impressed me most is Jane’s toughness, confidence and self-respecting. She never succumbed to life. She said: “Do you think, because I’m poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! ——I have as much soul as you——and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.” This was the best describe of her. God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain.
