After-effects Of Glaze On The Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are popularly used in household projects. They are made from clay material which is fired and shaped to form the hard and durable tile. This stone has remarkable features and comes in untreated and glazed form. These clays and natural minerals are found inside the earth crust. Their varied composition renders beauty to the stone.

These days, ceramic is available with various features. Each tile adds character to the household arrangement. You can cut and reshape the tile according to your design. Some ceramic tiles are installed in diagonal pattern to create difference from regular square patterns. Bold ceramic tile are catching huge attention as they add contemporary feel to the project.

Some people prefer glaze tiles over untreated tiles. The glazed tiles have an unmatchable beauty and their shine is a grand treat for viewers. The glaze is sprayed, dropped or silver screened on the tile surface. Later on, it is kiln fired to a specific temperature. This heat hardens the glaze on untreated ceramic tile. This glaze is made from minerals like gold, zinc, copper, cobalt, silver etc.

The glazing process has significant effect on the properties of ceramic tile. It alters the hardness and wearing intensity of the tile. It is proven that high kiln temperature leads to increased hardness of the stone. Hence, the kiln temperature should be altered according to the hardness of tile material. This feature brings remarkable changes in the endurance level of the tile.

Experts also state that dark colored glaze gets warred out easily. Colors like blue, red, yellow and black should be avoided while glazing the ceramic tiles. Builders should purchase matte or satin finished ceramic tiles to add longevity to their installation. The shiny glaze is prone to easy deterioration, so avoid it.

Hence, it is important to learn the fact that glazed ceramic tiles are highly affected by the temperature, color and gloss levels of the glaze process.
