Expansion In 1970, Air India shifted its offices to center of the city in Bombay. The subsequent year, the airline took deliverance of its primary Boeing 747-200B gave it a name Emperor Ashoka ,in 1986 Air India took delivery of the Airbus A310-300; In 1993, Air India added the flagship of its fleet when the first Boeing 747-400 named Konark made history by functioning the first non-stop flight between New york town and Delhi. In 1996, the airline initiated service to its succeeding US gateway at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. In 1999, the airline opened its devoted Terminal 2-C at the renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. In 2000, Air India commenced flights to Shanghai and to its third US gateway at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark. In 2004, Air India started a fully-owned low cost airline called Air-India Express. In 2004 Air India kick started flights to its fourth US gateway at Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles and expanded its international paths to take in flights from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore and Hyderabad. In the year 2009, Air India made Frankfurt Airport its European centre for its Trans-Atlantic North American functions .On 1 December 2009, Air India started services to its fifth US gateway at Washington Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.. Financial crisis In the year 2006-2007, the airlines started indicating signs of financial crisis. The shared losses for Air India and Indian Airlines in 2006-07 were approximately Rs 770 crores. After the amalgamation of the airlines, this reached up to Rs 7,200 crores by March 2009. This was trailed by reshuffling plans which are till day in progress. Destinations Air India caters to 9 domestic destinations and 15 worldwide destinations in 8 different countries. Jointly with it secondary airlines the group links nearly 93 destinations all over the world in 24 countries across Asia, Europe and North America. Maharaja Lounge Maharaja Lounge is provided to the executive class passengers. Air India has five Maharaja Lounges all over the world in Chennai,Delhi, and Mumbai.On International level it is in London-Heathrow, New York-JFK.
