Airlines Offer Smaller, More Uncomfortable Seat - What's Next?

Have you heard about the more uncomfortable seats that the commercial airlines are thinking about using in exchange for the lower airfares? They could start charging us for the air we are breathing while we fly also, wouldn't that be nice? Or maybe charge for taking a slide on the emergency slide after the plane has crashed? After all this who is surprised by what an airline will do to make some more money?

If you put some thought into it you start to wonder why taking a commercial flight costs so much but provides the passenger so little. The airlines continue to throw up the facts about security costs after September 11, and the rising cost of fuel for excuses regarding the ticket pricing continuing to rise. But the reality is that these are not the real reasons but no one has any idea when it will come to a stop.

There are now some seats in use on commercial carrier which are similar to a saddle where the passenger is in a half seated, half standing position during the flight, up to four hours. It's kind of similar to being tied to an upright gurney with a bed pan as your seat, what a blast. For suffering through this discomfort of a ride the airlines say they will have a very reduced airfare, at least during the first months that it is used.

Of course, safety is a number one priority and these seats are deemed safe. But the airlines may need to watch out because many people will not be able to sit in these lower cost seats and this may be seen as discrimination by some. Children, the elderly, and those who are handicapped definitely won't be able to ride in this new seat and issues regarding this will arise meaning that the airlines may need to come up with a solution to offering all inclusive discount seating for everyone.

Around the whole commercial flight experience it appears that the passengers are getting the short end of the stick, as the customer service is declining and everything you touch seems to cost you more money in order to increase their profits. As you choose your flight transportation your only real choice would be to charter a jet flight to your destination. If you do fly on a private jet charter you will get to choose your own itinerary and sit in a very luxurious seat that you so rightfully deserve. This doesn't provide any discounts but you will get all the great service you are paying for and have an exceptional trip.
