All About Cranbourne

If anyone wanted to settle in an outer suburb of Melbourne, they could do worse than try Cranbourne, just 49 kms southeast of Melbourne. Once an area for cattle markets and market gardens, Cranbourne is now a fast-growing suburb of Melbourne with wide streets and plenty of facilities. Housing developments have now replaced the lowing cattle and tasty vegetables, though you'll find a few market gardens there still.

The commercial centre of Cranbourne holds around 100 retail outlets, more than enough to satisfy the discerning shopper, while sports-minded people will find the horse races more to their liking. The first race meeting was held way back in 1867, but the more modern racing complex now hosts a wide range of activities and carnivals apart from the Cranbourne Cup.

Two of the most interesting attractions at Cranbourne would have to be the large Botanic Gardens with a special area set aside for Australian native plants, and the meteorite display, with replicas of all the meteorites that fell in a meteor shower in 1860. For lovers of coastal attractions, Cranbourne is ideally located within a short drive to Western Port Bay and the Mornington Peninsula. It enjoys a mild climate, with the minimum temperature around 6C in the winter and the maximum around 25C-26C in the summer months.
