First thing of consideration is to choose baits of a nice aroma as these little creatures have an acute sense of smell. Baits mostly serve you for quite a long purpose as the victim gets trapped before savoring it. This is an advantage of baits but does not prove right in every circumstance. Baits may catch up rancid or even degrade at times when kept for long times. So you have to remember to check it and change it when needed. And also check the aroma of the bait. In a case it happens that the bait is in a good condition but still has lost its aroma, change the bait. The bait must always be tempting and should be able to attract the animal to the trap.

Moving on, if you have complained of disappearing baits and your victim still not in trap, here is the answer for it. This is because you do not place the bait in the right manner. It is probably loosely placed, which is easy for the mouse to just pull and run away. That is why both, the trap and the bait, are to be set up perfectly right.

A better thing as the baits for the mouse is the pet food or the grains as mice and rats are mostly attracted to fats, sweets, grains and pet food. This too does not apply for all circumstances. If you set up a trap and bait it with pet food, and are unable to trap the mouse for more than a couple of days, it is wise to try something else. It may be something like a cotton ball dipped in honey, syrup of chocolate or even a small piece of candy will do right. The main thing to set a right trap is the high aroma factor.

A handful of things people suggested from their personal experiences are pistachios mounted on a bit of chewing gum. This will help the mouse stick onto it and fall into traps all by itself.
