All About French Language Immersion

There are various French immersion progrmammes around the world. The Agence pour l’enseignement francais a l’etranger (AEFE) manages or funds over 300 schools across the globe where French is the first language of instruction in the majority. In Australia, this concept is used in schools like Mansfield State High School which teaches maths, SOSE, science and French, all in French. There is a bilingual French English school called Telopea Park School in Canberra too.

In the UK, schools such as Walker Road Primary School in Aberdeen and Judgemeadow Community College in Leicester have some sort of French language immersion course in place. The Leicester one takes the register in French and their IT, PHSE and French lessons are all in this language.

The USA and Canada also have a lot of French immersion schools, so it is used across the world. It helps a lot of people to fully integrate in the French language as when it is used everyday it becomes a more natural thing to here and can be picked up much quicker. This is also a great idea for other nationalities who are moving to France and need to pick up the language quickly. There may not be an English school for them to attend so if the lessons are all in French and the other pupils all speak this language then they’d have to pick it up very quickly. Of course some translation help may be on offer to start with and make the process a bit easier but over time they will get used to hearing and learning in French so it will become second nature.
